My name is Nina Nissen, and I am a socio-cultural anthropologist specialising in applied, medical and visual anthropology. I am currently a visiting research fellow at the Research Unit for General Practice at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), which is a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment.

My research predominantly explores the experiences of people living with chronic illness, and their formal and informal social (and medical) support networks. I am interested in how people assemble and mobilise care practices for themselves and for human and non-human others, and how they negotiate the often competing demands of everyday life and the challenges of living with the uncertainties of diagnosis, fluctuating health condition(s) and wellbeing. My work has been published widely in international peer-reviewed journals, edited anthologies, and other academic and non-academic formats.

I teach undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate courses in medical anthropology, qualitative research methods, and academic writing.
